New Pier Opened

Yesterday saw the opening of the recently completed Uyeasound Pier in Unst. The new facility built at a cost of £2.8 Million is seen as a great boost to the local economy, and it is hoped will attract new business to the island.

The pier which is dog legged shaped with rock armour protection on the outside  was built by local contractor Tulloch Developments which started work on site in January 2008.

It is hoped in time that a marina can be added to this project, which will create viable berthing space for the rapidly increasing yacht trade which is now visiting the Shetland Islands.
