The Whalsay inter island ferry Linga has been taken out of service after she collided with the end of the pier at Laxo, causing major damage to the end of the structure and denting the ferry above the waterline.
It is thought a fault in the vessels control and electronic system is to blame for the accident.
A surveyor from Lloyds is due to inspect the ferry before returning her to servce. Meanwhile engneers and divers spent most of Thursday working on the damage to the pier in the hope of re opening the terminal to allow traffic to flow again.
