BP Schiehallion FPSO back on stream

There was good news this week regarding the return to production of the Floating Production Storage ship (FPSO) Schiehallion. The field which lies 93 nautical miles west of Shetland has been out of action since early last year after the FPSO was struck by the shuttle tanker Loch Rannoch.

Since this time throughput to Sullom Voe has been reduced resulting in a budget shortfall for the Shetland Islands Council due to the lack of tankers required to ship oil away.

However with the field back online and further development potential for the huge Clair field also west of the islands, the future looks brighter at a time when North sea output in the east Shetland basin is in decline.
