Myrte engine fire

  1. There was an incident yesterday off Fair Isle when the general cargo vessel Myrte en route from Invergordon to Lerwick with a cargo of pipes had a small fire in her engine room.

The resulting loss of power required the Coastguard emergency tug based in Orkney,
Herakles being tasked to the scene to assist the casualty.

On the scene first however was the offshore support ship Olympic Octopus which stood by her.The Herakles was stood down after the Shetland towage tug Tystie started towing the Myrte North towards Lerwick with berthing expected tomorrow morning once overnight winds have eased down.
