An old favourite arrived in Shetland this morning on her penultimate visit to Lerwick before her retirement in the autumn. The Finnish classic Kristina Regina on her way from Bergen to Thorshavn enjoyed a six hour visit before departing.
Due to new SOLAS 2010 regulations relating to survival at sea the Regina is being replaced by the new flagship Kristina Katarina, once a soviet ro-ro ferry.
The future of the distinctive profiled Regina remains in doubt but it is hoped she can find useful employment beyond her withdrawal from deep sea cruising.
She returns to Lerwick later in the cruise season and as a regular summer visitor to Shetland she will be sadly missed by harbour watchers who appreciate her fine looks.
