Dredging operations about to commence

Work is due to start in the next few days on a project to deepen Scalloway Harbour.

The works will see the navigation channel into the port deepened to accept the next generation of oil vessels as well as the current vessels employed in the business now.

Scalloway has been getting progressively getting busier as oil and gas exploration increase in the deep waters west of Shetland. It is hoped that the dredging will increase business at the council owned and operated harbour.
