New quay & fishmarket on it's way

Plans have finally swung into action with the proposed development of Mair's yard in Lerwick Harbour.

The site just north of the Holmsgarth facility will be the new home of Lerwick's whitefish market which will be part of a new quay that will hopefully be completed by late 2013.

The quay will be 151m long, with a depth of 6 meters which will allow greater flexibility to to ever increasing size of vessels as well as a large lay down area for crews to work on. The project partially funded by the European Fisheries Fund (EFF) to the tune of just under 1 million pounds will cost around 3.1 million altogether, and is part of the ports continued investment in harbour infrastructure.
