Yesterday afternoon Shetland Coastguard was alerted by the triggering of an emergency beacon from the banff registered trawler Denarius (above) around 60 miles south east of Sumburgh.
The vessel had caught fire leading to the 6 man crew taking to a liferaft from where they were winched to safety by the coastguard rescue helicopter and taken to Lerwick for check ups. The vessel was last reported to be adrift and still on fire late yesterday evening.
The trawler was photographed in Lerwick last week.
*Update*....Latest is that the badly burning out Denarius is under tow to Macduff where fire investigations will try to discover the cause of the blaze.
