A new milestone was achieved for Lerwick Harbour on Friday as the largest ever liner visited the port. The Norwegian Jewel arrived from Dover with 2,000 passengers onboard on her way to New York as part of a re-positioning cruise.
The trend of bigger liners shows no end and the Jewel will hold the title only briefly as there are bigger ships due next year. Firstly the Costa Magica is booked in for two visits but even she will be surpassed by the Crown Princess in September 2009.
Provisionally there are 33 cruise ships due next year with that figure set to rise further.
