2010 promises a busy cruise liner season

2009 was a great cruise season in Lerwick as records were broken, however 2010 promises even greater things as it was revealed that 50 ships alone have been booked to visit Lerwick during the summer months. This is an all time record, and heralds a record number of passengers also due to visit the isles.

The season kicks off on 10 May with a visit from the National Geographic Explorer (above) on the first of 3 visits, and ends with the largest liner yet in Grand Princess in September.

Shetland as a whole is gaining in popularity with cruise ships increasing in number not just in Lerwick but also in remote areas of the isles such as Fair Isle, Foula, Yell, Unst and even Out Skerries.
