Online Norway ferry petition launched

This week a local group of islanders have launched an online ferry petition asking for a direct link between Shetland and Norway to be reinstated.

Shetland has been without a link to Norway since Smiryl Line dropped Lerwick as a port of call some years ago despite a cash injection by the local council of some £4.2 Million causing widespread anger amongst local people.

Now the Scottish government is being asked to help fund a venture at a time when NorthLink the current operator is being asked to make savings in the region of a million pounds. The timing is not ideal and it would appear to be a long shot indeed for this to make any headway in the power corridors of Edinburgh.

P&O the last ferry operator before NorthLink ran a Saturday morning departure with the old St. Clair to Bergen arriving back on a Sunday afternoon, showing it could be possible to fit in an extra sailing to the current timetable, the only doubt is would it pay in the long further developments on this story.
