Fishing trawler aground & sinks north of Lerwick

*UPDATE*

The Banff registered Prospect BF573 ran aground this evening whilst leaving Lerwick via the north entrance of the harbour on a local reef called Robbie Ramsay's Baa. The vessel.was assisted by Lerwick port's pilot vessel Knab & and the Lerwick lifeboat, along with the coastguard rescue helicopter from Sumburgh.

The trawlers pumps were unable to keep up with the inflow of water and once towed of the reef she started to go down by the bow.

All crew are safe and well after abandoning the trawler which despite all efforts has now sunk just to the south of Rova Head.
